Doctors at the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital, which saw the maximum number of blasts victims being brought in, have asked all of them to undergo an ENT test done to rule out any possible hearing loss.
"We have asked all the blast victims, even those discharged, to under go an eye, nose, throat test done. This is to ensure that the loud sound of the blasts did not result in any sort of loss in hearing capabilities of the victim," CMO RML hospital S K Sharma said.
Giving the reason behind the advice, Dr J C Passi, senior ENT specialist at MAMC hospital, said, "Due to the loud noise a person may undergo noise trauma, which may not be known immediately. The drum membrane inside the ears get perforated resulting in grievous injury."
Even people who were not injured, but were in the vicinity of the blasts should undergo this test, he warned.
However, the patients who have received brain injuries are not advised the test, CMO Sharma said.
More than 70 injured people were brought in at RML since the serial blasts on Saturday, especially the victims of Central Park and Barakhamba Road explosions.
"There are chances that people who experience 120 decibel sound can undergo basic high acoustic trauma. If the ENT test is not done an individual may have to get a cochlear implant done later," Dr R K Thukral, ENT consultant Rockland hospital, said.
The person may also experience dizziness as a result of the high acoustic trauma, he added.
