In yet another demonstration of frenzied love of fans for their idols, a fan of Telugu super star turned politician Chiranjeevi committed suicide, merely to donate his eyes to the eye Bank run by the star. But in the end even that wish could not be fulfilled as the eyes could not be saved in time.

18 year old Chandru, a resident of Nizamabad committed suicide by hanging from the roof of his residence. In his suicide note the youth said that he wanted to make his favorite film star Chiranjeevi happy by donating his eyes. "No body is responsible for my death. I am committing suicide to donate my eyes to Chiranjeevi's eye bank", he said.

Chandu's family members said that the young boy was an ardent fan of Chiranjeevi and he had donated blood to Chiranjeevi's blood bank many a times. But no body though that he would go to the extent of taking his own life to donate his eyes.

But Chandru's last wish could not be fulfilled. By the time his body could be taken to hospital to remove his eyes, it was too late and they had become unfit for the transplantation.

Though south India, especially in Tamil Nadu has a long history of fans of film personalities self immolating and committing suicide if any harm came to their idols, it is first time that a fan committed suicide for donating his eyes.

In the recent months three fans of Chiranjeevi, including a IT professional couple committed suicide for various reasons but in their suicide notes they expressed regret over their inability to vote for Chiranjeevi in the elections.
