Four security personnel including three Central Reserve Police Force jawans were killed and six others injured in a land mine blast on Thursday at Balrampur district, about 550 km from capital Raipur, official sources said.

"Four policemen were killed and six injured in a powerful landmine blast, triggered by Maoists in Chunchuna village under Samri police station area bordering Jharkhand," police sources told PTI.

A CRPF spokesperson in New Delhi said that the incident occurred at around 2 pm when the security personnel were engaged in a search operation in the deep jungles of the district.

The policemen were traveling in a jeep from Samri to Kusmi when the explosion took place, sources said.

Additional forces have been rushed to the spot, they added.

Earlier on August 29, Maoists had blown off a jeep in an explosion triggered by an improvised explosive device, killing six CRPF men, including an officer in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh.
