All India Congress Committee General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Monday said that the development of Chhattisgarh was hampered due to corruption in the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government.
Addressing a public meeting at Lalbaug maidan in Jagdalpur, Gandhi said the state could not develop due to the failures of the government, despite getting adequate funds from the Centre.
"The United Progressive Alliance government provided Rs 8,000 crores to Chhattisgarh as compared to Rs 800 crore granted by the previous government. Still, the desired development could not be achieved," he said.
"It happened because of the high level of corruption and Naxalism in the state," Gandhi said.
He alleged that several important schemes introduced by the UPA government were also not implemented properly in the state.
He called upon the people of Chhattisgarh to vote for the Congress for a better government.
Former chief minister Ajit Jogi and former union minister Arvind Netam also addressed the meeting.
