An army jawan on Monday allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Anantnag district.
Havaldar Suresh Chander, posted with First Rashtriya Rifles unit, shot himself inside a camp at High Ground in the district, official sources said.
The motive behind his taking the extreme step was not known immediately, the sources said.
Chander is the fifth security personnel who has committed suicide in the Valley in a fortnight.
An Indian Air Force personnel committed suicide on May 8, while an army jawan shot himself to death at a camp in Kangan in Ganderbal district on May 11.
A Border Security Force personnel was found hanging inside a camp in Bandipora on May 14 while a Central Reserve Police Force jawan ended his life after deserting the camp on May 16.
