Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Monday assured Denmark that the perpetrators of the 'wanton act of terrorism' near the Danish Embassy in Islamabad would be brought to justice.

Qureshi made the assurance during a phone call to his Danish counterpart Per Stig Moller, said a statement issued by the Foreign Office.

The Pakistani minister strongly condemned the attack and termed terrorism a 'scourge that is threatening the whole human society'.

Expressing sorrow and grief over the loss of life and property due to the bomb blast, Qureshi assured Moller that "the people responsible for this wanton act of terrorism will be brought to justice".

"The highly regrettable act will further strengthen Pakistan's resolve to fight extremism and terrorism," Qureshi said. He also informed Moller that Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir visited the Danish Embassy after the incident to meet the charge d'affaires.

Eight people were killed and 24 injured when a suicide bomber detonated his explosive-laden car outside the embassy today afternoon.

Moller thanked the Pakistan government for expressing solidarity with Denmark and the Danish mission in Islamabad. He suggested that a Danish delegation visit Islamabad to meet Danish diplomats and condole the death of Pakistan nationals in the terrorist attack.

Qureshi said his government would welcome the proposed visit and provide all possible assistance to the Danish delegation.

Speaking to a Danish television channel, Moller termed the attack 'terrible and totally unacceptable'.

European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana also condemned the outrageous terrorist attack and expressed his condolences to "the authorities of Denmark and Pakistan and to the families of the dead and injured".
