Fiona McKeown, mother of British teenager Scarlett Keeling who was found dead on Goa's Anjuna beach in February, is expected to depose before the Central Bureau of Investigation next week, her counsel said.

"Fiona will be arriving in the country next week as the CBI had required her presence to investigate the Scarlett case," Vikram Varma, Fiona's legal counsel, told PTI.

Keeling's bruised body was found on Goa's popular Anjuna beach on February 18. The police had probed the case as a homicide and arrested two locals in connection with it.

However, McKeown had expressed her dissatisfaction over the investigation and sought a CBI inquiry into the entire episode.

The state government, after some initial reluctance, had agreed to hand over the case to the central investigating agency, but McKeown's absence since then had constrained the probe.

"Fiona was not available for the CBI since they took over the case. She has got her visa and will arrive next week," Varma said.

Meanwhile, CBI sources said that prime witness Michael Mannion, a British national, who had seen Scarlett with one of the accused a little before her body was found on the beach, was interrogated on Tuesday.

Mannion was held back in India due to a look-out circular issued against him by the Goa police. "Once the CBI is convinced that they don't require Mannion in the country, they will give their nod to lift the LoC," sources added.
