Angry over cross voting by Biju Janata Dal MP Harihar Swain during the trust vote in the Lok Sabha, Orissa Chief Minister and party president Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday said the concerned member would be expelled from the party.

"This person has betrayed the BJD and deceived lakhs of people who voted him on the party symbol. He will be expelled soon," Patnaik said while reacting to Swain voting in favour of the United Progressive Alliance government in the trust vote.

Swain, who represents Aska Lok Sabha constituency in Patnaik's native Ganjam district, voted in favour of the UPA government defying the party whip.

When contacted, Swain said he voted according to his 'inner voice'.

However, other 10 MPs of the BJD voted against the Manmohan Singh government as per the directive.

"It was a wrong decision to field him in the elections," Patnaik said.
