The Bharatiya Janata Party, which has been working over time in mustering up the numbers to defeat the UPA, will fall short by another lawmaker, with the resignation of its MP from Bellary, Karunakar Reddy.

Reddy, who won the Karnataka assembly elections on a BJP ticket, was inducted into the B S Yeddyurappa cabinet as revenue minister.
As per the rules, no person is allowed to hold the membership of two Houses.

Immediately after taking oath as member of the Karnataka legislative assembly, Reddy had sent in his resignation to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
The resignation was accepted by the Speaker on Monday ahead of the trust vote, thus reducing the number of the BJP on the floor of the House.
