Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati has asked party workers to help the needy, particulary people from the Sarva Samaj, on her 52nd birthday on January 15.

Mayawati has said unlike previous occasions, this time there would be no big function. The workers' financial donation to strengthen the party and helping the needy would be the main attraction of the day.

The fourth time chief minister of UP, who will turn 52 on that day, will launch several developmental programmes in the state including laying of the foundation stone of the ambitious 1000 kms Ganga Expressway in the state capital.

The CM will also release the book Mere Sangharsh Ki Kahani: BSP ka Safarnama written by her at a function in New Delhi.

Mayawati said that the party leaders and workers at the districts should help the needy on the day. This would be the real gift of the BSP on her birthday, she has said.

She has suggested that party workers should include the common man in the celebrations including poor widows, physically and mentally challenged persons, students and senior citizens.

On her birthday, Mayawati is expected to be a very busy person as she will lay the foundation stone for the mega Noida to Ballia over 1000 km Ganga Expressway project.

According to official sources, the CM will address a press conference in the state capital, after meeting BSP leaders and workers to accept their greetings on her birthday.

The CM will fly to New Delhi where she will address a press conference and later will go to Noida to lay the foundation stone of the Ganga Expressway at that end.

Meanwhile, the city of nawabs has turned 'blue' to mark her birthday. Blue gates have been erected across the state capital.

Blue is the party colour of the BSP. Special lighting arrangements have been made at Dr B R Ambedkar memorial and the Rama Bai memorial parks. Major city intersections near the CM's official residence at 5, Kalidas Marg have also been lit up to mark her birthday.

''The BSP is footing the bill...the government is not paying for the lights,'' said a Lucknow Development Authority official.
