The Congress on Monday dismissed Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati's charge that certain Congress leaders were conspiring to eliminate her.

"I am unable to understand why is she levelling such charges. She has the complete police force of Uttar Pradesh, she has all commandoes", All-India Congress Committee general secretary Digvijay Singh said.

Singh, who is in charge of party affairs in UP, said, "The Union Government can never be part of such conspiracies. Especially Congress can never be a participant in such matters".

The AICC general secretary was reacting to Mayawati's statement alleging that certain Congress leaders were out to eliminate her and were 'patronising' expelled Samajwadi Party MP Atiq Ahmed, whom she dubbed as 'mafia'.

Mayawati also accused the Congress-led coalition of following the erstwhile Bharatiya Janata Party-led Government's path of 'harassing and trying to get her involved in fake cases'.

She said she would convene a meeting of her party office bearers and legislators after January 15 'to take a final decision' on the issue of support to the Centre.
