Three police officers were injured when a detonator recovered by security forces on Thursday morning went off inside a police station in Srinagar, official sources said.

The blast inside the Sadar police station occurred when the detonator exploded, resulting in injuries to two sub-inspectors and an assistant sub-inspector of the police station, sources said.

The injured were rushed to police hospital. Security forces averted a major tragedy earlier when they recovered a powerful improvised explosive device on the Srinagar airport road.

The device was found during a search operation in Haidarpura, Central Reserve Police Force spokesman P Tripathy said. "The IED was mobile-triggered and weighed 80 kg. It was recovered by the troops around 6 am this morning," Tripathy said.
