A day after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati claimed that Congress Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi goes through purification rituals after he visits a Dalit home, Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh on Tuesday termed her utterances as utterly baseless.

"Ye sab betuki batein hain (all this is baseless). How can Mayawati know that Rahul is bathed with special soaps? Has she seen this?" he said.

Addressing a poll rally in Sant Kabirnagar in Uttar Pradesh, Singh alleged that the Bahujan Samaj Party supremo had done precious little for Dalits in Uttar Pradesh, in spite of being their leader.

On the contentious Ram Sethu issue, he said that his party was prepared for any sacrifice on the issue.

Turning to inflation, the BJP chief alleged that the United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre had failed to rein in skyrocketing prices of essential commodities.

In a new low in the war of words with the Congress, Mayawati on Monday said that Gandhi takes bath with a special soap after he visits a Dalit home.  He also goes through purification rituals with incense sticks, she had said.

The BJP president is here to campaign for the party nominee in the by-election to Khalilabad Lok Sabha seat.
