The Aligarh Muslim University, which was closed sine die after the killing of a student and subsequent violence and arson last week, is planning tough measures, including a ban on two-wheelers in the campus, to ensure law and order in the institution and its smooth functioning.
Setting up an in-house radio station for enhanced communication between students and the authorities, removal of overnight tea stalls and eateries inside the campus were some of the steps spelt out by Vice Chancellor, P K Abdul Aziz.
The university was considering banning the two-wheelers in the campus, an AMU spokesman said quoting the VC.
A large number of such unauthorised tea stalls which remain open till late in the night, are often frequented by anti-social elements from outside the campus, he said.
The senior AMU faculty members ensured full cooperation to Aziz in his efforts to root out anti-social elements from the campus and re-opening the university in a phased manner.
The AMU Staff Association had earlier passed a resolution urging the Vice Chancellor to dissolve the Students' Union.
The University was closed sine-die on September 17 following killing of a student widespread violence in the campus.
