Appearing in the dock for the first time in the Pramod Mahajan murder case, prime accused Pravin Mahajan, who surrendered to the police with his pistol after the Bharatiya Janata Party leader was gunned down, on Monday claimed he did not kill his elder brother.
Pravin, 46, told a sessions court recording his evidence that he came to know about his brother's hospitalisation and death only from the newspapers.
Pravin is accused of gunning down his brother Pramod Mahajan on April 22, 2006, at the latter's Worli residence in central Mumbai. Pramod died on May 3.
He, however, told the court that he went with his pistol to the police station on the same day and identified himself as Pravin Mahajan. Pramod's wife Rekha Mahajan in her testimony before the court earlier has identified Pravin as the person who shot her husband.
Pravin also told the court that Pramod was like a father was affectionate towards him.
Also, he denied having demanded Rs 1 crore from Pramod. Pravin also denied having sent any threatening SMS to his brother.
