The executive council of the Aligarh Muslim University today approved its decision to suspend 10 girls for their alleged involvement in the incidents of rowdism in the campus last month.
A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of the council held to review steps for overhauling the present university administrative and security steps.
Last month, the girls of the women's college here including female members of the teaching staff had demonstrated following a girl's allegations of rape by a university employee.
The allegation was later declared "fabricated and baseless" by a 7-members committee set up by the university.
Earlier last week, the university had suspended another 15 students for their involvement in the last month's campus violence, bringing the total number of the suspended students during the past weeks to 39.
In another decision, the council has decided to award all major construction projects -- including restoration of all in-campus heritage buildings, construction of an Urdu Academy, a new academic staff college and a girls' hostel for the Engineering students totalling Rs 10 crore -- to the Central Public Works Department.
It is an step to clip the growing influence of the powerful local builder's lobby in the campus, officials said.
The university is not likely to reopen before the last week of this month, though there is no official word on this yet.
