Karnataka crisis: JD-S members support Gowda's stand

The Janata Dal – Secular convention to discuss the ongoing power tussle in Karnataka started in Bangalore on Thursday. The main speakers at the convention are former prime minister and JD-S supremo H D Deve Gowda, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and Home Minister M P Prakash.

Through this convention, the JD-S wants to get the opinion of all party members about the power transfer issue. However, the BJP claims that it is merely a time killing tactic.

JD-S workers from across the state are attending the meeting. Gowda says that he will seek the opinion of party workers from all levels on whether to transfer power to the Bharatiya Janata Party according to the power sharing arrangement. However, JD-S members say that the final decision about the matter rests with Gowda.

Speaking at the convention, state Home Minister Prakash said that the BJP has behaved in an immature manner. He added that the BJP should have sat across the table with the JD-S and discussed the issue. Prakash also said that the parliamentary committee meeting of the JD-S in New Delhi on October 5 will hold the key to the future of the present government.

After Prakash's speech, all the members present were asked to raise their hands if they supported the party's present stance on the transfer of power. Not surprisingly, all 5,000 JD-S members raised their hands in support of their leaders.
