India will take a stand on the emergency in Pakistan only after the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group has taken a final view on the issue at Kampala on November 22, foreign secretary Shiv Shankar Menon said.

Menon was briefing the media on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Kampala to attend the Commonwealth Summit where the Pakistan issue will figure prominently along with the election of the association's new secretary general.

He said the CMAG had earlier in November given ten days' ultimatum to Pakistan to lift emergency or face suspension from the 53-member grouping.

''We are waiting for the CMAG report and then we will take a position on it,'' he added.
