The kin of victims of the Nithari serial killings were on Wednesday disappointed by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati's refusal to accede to their demand to shift the probe into the matter from the Central Bureau of Investigation to the state police.
Dissatisfied at the way the CBI was investigating the matter, the families of the victims met Mayawati and demanded that the probe be handed over to the state police. She, however, said her government could not do anything in this regard as the CBI was already investigating the matter.
Disappointed by Mayawati's stand, the families requested her to ensure that they get the relief announced by the previous government led by Mulayam Singh Yadav. Anil Upadhyay, a social worker who accompanied the families, told PTI that Mayawati agreed to look into this matter and said she would direct the concerned district magistrate to do the needful.
Upadhyay said Mayawati suggested the families should go to court with their demand for a probe by the state police.
