Shankar Gupta, a 25-year-old salesman in Varanasi’s first shopping mall, Kuber Complex, feels the current crop of politicians is good for nothing.
"Probably baring the BJP to some extent, they all promote goondagiri (the underworld) and look to further their own interests. Even the BJP is not completely free from it," he says.
He feels Mulayam Singh Yadav's "biggest crime" is to have made life tough for the common man.
"There is no infrastructure or development," Shankar says. "There has been no difference in the basic amenities from five to 10 years ago. He has allowed criminals to flourish," he says.
He feels the present crop of Congress leaders is no good. "The Congress party was a very good party. They did something for the common man. These days, the party is in a shambles and doesn't know what to do," he says.
