'You are welcome at my house,' Pramod wrote to Pravin

A letter written by Pramod Mahajan to his younger brother Pravin assuring him that he would always be welcome at the former's household even after leaving the joint family, was on Monday produced in the court conducting the Bharatiya Janata Party leader's murder case trial.

Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, relying on this letter, which was read out in the court, argued that it showed that Pravin was angry with the rest of the family.

The letter, written by Pramod when Pravin separated from the joint family following his marriage, assured him that "come what may, doors of my house would be always open for you."

Nikam pointed out that the letter showed Pravin's allegation of Pramod and their mother coming together against him was false. Pravin was very arrogant and Pramod had failed to recognise his younger brother's real self despite living together for so many years, said Nikam.

The letter was seized by the police from Pravin's house after he was arrested for shooting Pramod on April 22 2006, leading to the BJP leader's death 12 days later.

It was read out in the court, and Rekha Mahajan, Pramod's wife, identified the same as having been written by her husband. Additional Sessions Judge S P Davare concluded recording of Rekha's testimony on Monday. The defence started with her cross-examination, which would continue on March 30.
