The petitioner in the Mulayam Singh Yadav disproportionate assets case has asked the Supreme Court to make public an anonymous letter levelling allegations against a senior apex court judge who heard the case.

Vishwanath Chaturvedi, on whose petition Supreme Court ordered a CBI probe into the case, has written a letter through his advocate D K Garg to the Apex Court Registrar demanding that the letter written to Justice A R Lakshmanan be made public.

Justice Lakshmanan on March 16 refused to hear a review petition filed by Yadav's son Akhilesh after he received an anonymous letter leveling allegations against him.

"It seems that the creator of the said anonymous letter released it to the electronic and print media on March 16," the lawyer said.

"Faith, belief and confidence of people cannot but be termed to be the hallmark of the judicial system of this country and if matters proceed like this, there would neither be faith and belief nor confidence in the judiciary," he said.

Garg said the anonymous letter should be brought on the record for the proceedings and a copy of it may be given to Chaturvedi.
