Former Union minister and senior Congress leader Sanjay Singh on Wednesday said his party will contest 300 seats in the coming assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh and leave the rest for its allies.
Talking to media persons in Amethi, Singh said Congress is busy finalising a grand alliance in which Rashtriya Lok Dal, Jan Morcha and Om Prakash Rajbhar's party along with some other smaller political parties could be likely partners.
Claiming that his party would have an important role in the formation of next government in the state, Singh said the party leadership was serious about the coming polls in which party parliamentarian Rahul Gandhi will play a significant role.
To a question, Singh said so far he has not got any instruction from the high command to contest the elections.
Criticising Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, Singh alleged that he had no faith in the democratic institutions and is therefore continuing on the post despite adverse comments by the apex court against his government.
Singh alleged that the non-Congress governments in the state since the past 17 years had impeded its development as the leaders of the parties heading successive governments had been 'busy pocketing huge sums.'
