Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeswar's refusal of permission to prosecute Chief Minister Mayawati in the Taj Heritage corridor case raises 'suspicion of horse trading' when presidential election was round the corner, a senior BJP leader alleged in Chandigarh on Wednesday.
"It (Governor's action) is possible to arouse suspicion about horse trading when the election to the post of the President is so close," senior BJP leader and party's Punjab and Chandigarh affairs incharge Sahib Singh Verma told media persons.
"The BJP will study the case (action of the Governor)... permission of the Governor is not required to prosecute the chief minister," he said.
He, however, said: "Mayawati does other than what she speaks. We hope Mayawati will vote for us (BJP)."
The Rs 175-crore Taj Heritage corridor case relates to Mayawati's move in building a land corridor on the banks of Yamuna river near Taj Mahal in Agra in 2002.
