The Governor of Goa is yet to receive any letter from the political parties staking their claim to form the next government in the state, officials said in Panaji on Wednesday.
Raj Bhavan confirmed that none of the political leaders have even sought an appointment from Governor S C Jamir to meet him and formally submit the letter.
Congress, the single largest party, is yet to decide on their leader in the House while the Nationalist Congress Party is entirely banking on Congress to form the government in the state.
Congress-NCP combine makes 19 legislators while it has to get support of two more to form the government in the 40-seat-House.
NCP wants Dpy CM's post:
NCP observer for Goa Gurunath Kulkarni has said that the party was expecting the deputy chief minister's post in the new government.
"Obviously, we expect the earlier arrangement to continue," Kulkarni, who is general secretary of the party's Maharashtra unit, told PTI.
Kulkarni, however, said the party has not yet 'made up its mind' on who would be its candidate for the post. Wilfred Desouza, NCP's Goa unit chief, deputy chief minister in the Pratapsingh Rane government, lost the June 2 assembly elections.
The Congress-NCP combine is set to form the government in the state having bagged 19 seats in a house of 40 and it needs the support of two more legislators. While the NCP bagged three seats, the Congress secured 16 seats.
Asked if Francisco alias Micky Pacheco, who has been elected NCP legislature party leader would be the new deputy chief minister, Kulkarni said: "We have not decided anything on the issue...He is a candidate (for the post)."
Replying to another query, Kulkarni said NCP would not 'insist' on any particular person from Congress to be made the chief minister.
"It is their internal matter. We will not interfere in that," Kulkarni, who is holding a meeting of newly elected NCP legislators and other state unit party leaders, said.
