Hyderabad City Police, which sought the help of the mobile company, managed to trace the call made to Satyanarayana by his wife. Satyanarayana's wife had lodged a report about his disappearance on Tuesday morning.
The call was received by Satyanarayana on his mobile when he was somewhere in the vicinity of Bhongir town, about 35 km from Hyderabad, on Tuesday morning.
Police teams were rushed to Bhongir immediately and other areas to trace the Satyam executive.
In a statement issued on Tuesday evening, Miss Shakuntala of Satyam media relations said, "We have learnt of the kidnapping of our associate, Satya Vedula from his family on Tuesday morning. This unfortunate incident happened from the Secunderabad area in Hyderabad."
Gopalpuram Division Assistant Commissioner of Police Y V Ramana told rediff.com that police received a complaint from Satyanarayana's wife Kiranmayi between 9.45 am and 10 am that her husband has been kidnapped.
"Satyanarayana (aged 40 years) works in Satyam Computers as general manager. On Tuesday morning, he dropped his two children at Geetanjali Public School near Sangeet theatre at Secunderabad. He crossed the busy road with his children to drop them at school while his car was parked on the other side of the road. His driver was also waiting for him in the car. The driver called up Satyanarayana's wife asking "...where is the sahib?". He told her that Satyanarayana did not return after dropping the kids," the ACP said, giving details of the incident.
"Satyanarayana's wife subsequently called him on his cellphone and he told her, "I am fine. I am in an urgent meeting." But her enquiries with the office revealed that he was not there," the ACP added.
Kiranmayi panicked when Satyanarayana stopped responding to calls on the cellphone. She then lodged a complaint with Gopalpuram police.
