The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday denied Vishwa Hindu Parishad international general secretary Pravin Togadia's charge that the National Democratic Alliance has fallen victim to the policy of Muslim appeasement by nominating former deputy chairperson of Rajya Sabha for the post of Vice President of India.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad termed Togadia's charge as baseless.

"Nomination of Heptullah as NDA candidate for Vice President is certainly not an appeasement. She is a deserving candidate and has been selected on merit," he said.

Togadia had charged all major political parties for nominating Muslim candidates for the post of Vice President.

"There seems to be a silent reservation for the post of Vice President by all the political parties," he said.

Dr Togadia lashed out at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for saying that he could not sleep when three doctors from Bangalore were arrested in England and Australia for their alleged involvement in a terror case in England.

"He would not sleep because the persons who were arrested were Muslims. Did he lose sleep when there were hand grenades thrown by terrorists on the Amarnath pilgrims in last one week? Did he lose sleep when more then 10,000 security personnel were killed in the valley by the terrorists? I do not think so because they were Hindus and it did not matter if the Hindus get killed," he said.
