Pulling up the government for not submitting accurate details, including casualties, of the crackdown on Lal Masjid, Pakistan Supreme Court on Friday ordered the release of all detained persons who were not wanted for specific cases.
A division bench, which was formed on July 9 -- a day before the military operation against Lal Masjid, ordered the
release of detainees not wanted by police immediately.
The bench comprising Justices Muhammad Nawaz Abbasi and Faqir Muhammad Khokhar ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad to ensure the bail of all the persons detained under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant) as early as possible.
Deputy Attorney General Tariq Khokhar said the government has submitted a detailed report regarding the persons injured, dead, detained and released in the incident.
However, the court said that the information given in the report was not complete as the names of the persons were
not given in the report.
Abbasi said the case related to human rights and why the concerned authorities were taking the matter so lightly.
"You are just joking with the court," the judge remarked at one stage.
The court directed the government to file a comprehensive statement in the court of the injured, dead, detained and released people.
Khokhar informed the court that over all 102 persons died in the operation-- 91 civilians, 10 army personnel and a
Ranger.
