Taking strong exception to the failure of the Uttar Pradesh police, the Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday lodged a complaint with Noida police for registering a case against lawyers and others who assaulted Mohinder Singh Pandher and Surendra Koli, main accused in the serial killings of women and children in Nithari, in a court in Ghaziabad.

A CBI official said the agency had asked the local police to register a case against the attackers of Mohinder and Surendra on Thursday and a complaint in this connection had already been lodged.

According to a CBI official note, a deputy inspector general of police of the agency had informed senior superintendent of police in Noida on Wednesday for ensuring adequate security measures during the court proceedings on Thursday in the premises of chief judicial magistrate.

Minutes after the lawyers and general public started thrashing Pandher, who was brought to the designated court in Ghaziabad, the CBI immediately took up the matter with the Union Home Ministry and Uttar Pradesh government about the the security arrangements there.

The Union Home Ministry, in turn, asked the UP chief secretary and director general of police to submit a report in this connection.

At least three CBI sleuths were injured, one of them suffered a minor dislocation of shoulder, while trying to save Pandher from the mob ire, sources in the agency said.

A senior CBI official replied in the negative when asked whether the investigating agency would be shifting the case out of Ghaziabad following Thursday's incident and said, "This will amount to succumbing to the lawlessness."
