Two Border Security Force personnel, including an officer, were injured in cross-border firing along the Indo-Pak border in Jammu early on Wednesday as the force foiled an infiltration bid supported by cover firing from Pak Rangers, a BSF spokesman said.

A patrol party of BSF found militants trying to infiltrate at the Matkola border outpost in Jammu district at around 0240 hours, and the ultras fired at the security personnel, he told PTI.

The militants were supported by firing from Pakistani Rangers, but the infiltration bid was foiled, he said.

In the exchange of fire, one sub-inspector, Avinash Chandar, received bullet injuries in his chest while another jawan, Prasad, was also injured.

Both of them have been admitted to the military hospital in Jammu.

Asked whether the incident was a violation of the 2003 ceasefire, the spokesman said Pakistani Rangers also fired from their positions across the border and the situation is being monitored.

Inspector General (BSF frontier) S C Vaid rushed to meet the commander of the 18 corps to apprise him about the situation, the spokesman added.
