A three-year old boy was rescued early on Monday from a borewell pit over 12 hours after he slipped into it while playing at Ghoreshwar village near Katni, a senior official said.
Men and machines worked relentlessly and rescued Amit Kushwaha safely early on Monday morning, District Collector Anupam Rajan told PTI.
"The boy had got stuck at around 20 feet of the 50-feet-deep hole. He is fine," Rajan said. Amit was now kept under observation at the district hospital in Katni.
"A parallel hole was dug by the rescue team around 3 feet away from the pit and the boy was pulled out safely," he said adding, that oxygen was pumped into the pit while a close-circuit camera was installed to monitor his movements.
Senior officials, including the collector, supervised the rescue operation.
