Political parties are taking their own time to forge a post-poll alliance in the wake of a fractured verdict in elections to the municipal corporation in Pune as the civic body's current term ends in early March.
The Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena pre-poll alliance had together got 45 seats while the Nationalist Congress Party has emerged as the single largest party in the 144-member civic body with 42 seats.
The faction-ridden ruling Congress, which had a post-poll alliance with the NCP but fought separately, could win only 35 seats.
Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and independents won eight and 14 seats respectively.
BJP's city unit president Girish Bapat, legislator, told PTI on Sunday that "any decision on whether we should make an attempt to head the civic body or sit in the opposition, it being a policy matter, would be decided by our leadership in due course of time."
Shiv Sena and BJP leaders namely Bal Thackeray, Udhav Thackeray, Gopinath Munde and Nitin Gadkari would decide the combine's future course in Pune, he said adding, that still there was lot of time in hand, because the municipal corporation's term gets over in first or second week of March.
