Polling in urban areas of Saurashtra and Kutch in the first phase of Gujarat Assembly elections began on Tuesday on a dull note with only a few voters seen outside the polling booths.
Polling was peaceful so far and no untoward incident was reported.
The polling process is underway for 58 crucial seats of Saurashtra, where the Patels are the dominating force opposing Chief Minister Narendra Modi. The Patels community had been supporting the BJP for the past two decades.
Political workers said polling is likely to pick up later in the day.
