Gujarat Congress has released a 'chargesheet' against the Chief Minister Narendra Modi, which states that his rule has done nothing except spreading 'canards' against people and disturbing communal harmony in the state.

The chargesheet was simultaneously released in Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara and Ahmedabad.

'We charge the BJP government with harbouring contempt and hatred against Muslims of Gujarat. Riot-affected Muslims are still living in miserable condition. The state government has offered them less than a pittance,' the Congress chargesheet said.

It said the state government has done nothing in rehabilitating the post-Godhra riots affected Muslim families numbering 5,307, languishing as refugees in various camps.

'It is very sad state of affairs that a constitutionally-bound state government has grossly failed in protecting the lives and property of Muslim citizens. It believes that its only duty is fulfilled by passing on the central government assistance to the riot-affected people,' it reads.

'Narendra Modi's hatred and contempt for the Muslims at state and national level is a very well-known fact. That is why he was reluctant in honouring the two Muslim cricketers -- brothers Irfan and Yousuf Pathan,' it further reads.

This is perhaps after a long time that the Gujarat unit of Congress was criticising the Modi government so severely for the 2002 post-Godhra riots without caring about any backlash from the majority community in the elections, which were round the corner, political observers said.

The chargesheet quoting figures and details said that claim of Gujarat chief minister that the state was number one in every respect was false.

It said as against the claims of Modi Government of proposed investment of Rs 5,67,995 crore in Gujarat, only 16 per cent of that amount has been invested till 2007.

'The state has only received 5 per cent investment of total foreign direct investment in the country in the last five years,' state unit Congress President Bharat Solanki said.

'Every Gujarati has a per capita debt of Rs 17,200 while in Bihar per capita debt is Rs 5,180, while the total debt on the state government has increased to Rs 70,000 crore under Modi rule,' the chargesheet claimed.

The chargesheet said that the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre has helped the state progress in the economic field.

The Modi government has done injustice to farmers, women, youths, minority and failed on all the fronts, which includes law and order, it said.

The crime rate has increased under the Modi rule and people are living in fear, Congress leader Manish Tiwari said.

The Congress plans to distribute the copies of this chargesheet to the voters ahead of the assembly elections scheduled on December 11 and 16.

BJP spokesperson Prakash Javdekar described the Congress chargesheet as a document, which displayed utter frustration of a party that has been driven out of power by the people.
