According to the figures provided by the department of disaster management, Samastipur alone accounted for a maximum of 53 deaths, followed by Darbhanga (51), east Champaran (49), Muzaffarpur (31), Khagaria (25) and Sitamarhi (19) in the recent spell.

Ten persons each perished in the floods in Saharsa, Bhagalpur and Begusarai districts, nine others died in Madhubani, five in Katihar, four each in Khagaria and west Champaran and one in Nalanda, they said.

The distribution of relief materials was badly hit due to heavy rains, the sources said.

Nearly 1.5 crore people continued to reel under the calamity in 7,304 villages spread over 186 blocks in 19 districts of the state, they said.

The floods have caused extensive damage to standing crops worth around Rs 268.40 crore, houses estimated to be around Rs 105.16 crore and public property worth Rs 43,65 crore, the sources said.
