Opposing peace move with Pakistan until it acts against terror groups operating from its soil, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday decided to build public opinion against the confidence-building measures with Islamabad.
After the party's core group meeting at the residence of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, BJP chief Rajnath Singh told reporters that the moves to resume dialogue with Pakistan has sparked "serious concern" in the main opposition.
BJP leaders Lal Kishenchand Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Bal Apte and Arun Jaitley were present at the meeting.
"We firmly believe that India should not hold talks with Pakistan and we have decided to reach out to the masses in this regard," Rajnath Singh said.
He recalled Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's promise in 2004 to Vajpayee that he would not allow anti-India terror activities in his country.
Rajnath Singh said there should be no CBMs with Pakistan until it moves ahead to destroy terror outfits on its soil.
BJP's general secretaries, he said, would meet in Delhi on October 4 to plan the party's public campaign against CBMs with Pakistan.
The planned meeting will follow the BJP's week-long Vande Mataram events designed to showcase the saffron party's original Hindutva and nationalist ideology.
Earlier in the day, BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar voiced concern over border security along Bangladesh as a news report suggested RDX was available easily to potential customers.
