A case of attempt to murder was registered against expelled Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Bharatiya Jan Shakti president Uma Bharti and five others at the Bhagwa police station, about 15 km from Chhatarpur.
Besides Bharti, her brother Harbal Lodhi and others were booked for attempt to murder, arson and other offences in connection with violence at nearby Sarora village on Monday during by-elections to the Bada Malhara Assembly constituency.
The case was registered following complaints lodged by local BJP leaders.
Shortly before the end of polling for the by-elections, BJS workers and Bharti's guards had assaulted local leaders leading to attack by villagers on her motorcade, police officials alleged.
Another case of arson and rioting was registered against BJS general secretary Prahlad Patel and eight others, including
Bharti's brother Lodhi and her nephews Rahul, Siddharth and Khalag.
Bharti was not immediately available for comment.
