Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on Wednesday alleged that state Governor T V Rajeshwar had recommended the dismissal of the Samajwadi Party government and hinted he favoured early Assembly elections.

"I have reports that the governor has recommended dismissal of the state government," Yadav claimed while speaking to newsmen in Lucknow.

Asked whether he had specific information in this regard, Mulayam said he got to know about the development from media reports and his own sources.

"There have been media reports to this effect and the governor has not contested the same," the chief minister said adding, that dismissal of a state government was not easy.

Mulayam also ruled out the possibility of recommendation for dissolution of the Vidhan Sabha, saying there was no point doing so as the Assembly elections were barely a few months away.

Asked when the Assembly elections would be held, Mulayam said the polling date would be fixed by the Election Commission.

It is the EC which will announce the dates. We will simply give the commission our opinion, he said adding, the state government had not yet decided on the possible dates for elections.

"We are ready for the elections. The present political situation is in our favour," he claimed.

Lashing out at Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati for her reported remarks regarding voting by Muslims recently, Mulayam said the SP never believed in the politics of caste and religion.

"BSP is a casteist party and its supremo wants to be in the news all the time," he said.

Yadav reiterated his charge that the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party were in league with each other on the demand for dismissal of the state government.
