The golden jubilee of Karnataka's formation, Rajyotsava, was celebrated on Wednesday throughout the state with pomp and ceremony.

Reports from various districts said the national flag, besides the red and yellow flag of the state, was hoisted by district incharge ministers followed by a colourful parade depicting the progress the state had made in various fields.

In Gulbarga, Agriculture and Marketing Minister Sharanabasappa Darshanapur and Animal Husbandary Minister Revu Nayak and other prominent personalities participated.

Addressing the gathering, the minister reiterated the government's committment to developing the backward Hyderabad region.

He assured that the government would release funds as per the recommendations of the Nanjundappa committee.

The minister highlighted the coalition government's achievements and promised to complete the Gulbarga-Bidar railway track, setting up of the I-T park and textile industry in the region.

Over 25 activists of the Hyderabad-Karnataka-Horata Samithi were arrested by the police when they tried to demonstrate with black flags in front of the dias, protesting against the government's step-motherly attitude towards the region.

A report from Udupi said Medical Education Minister Dr V S Acharya participated in the celebrations and sought Kannada to be made a classical language by the Centre.

The Union government should take all steps to ensure that the announcement was made during the golden jubilee year of the state formation, he added.

Referring to the mounting tension in border areas of the state, he urged the Centre to ensure implementation of the Mahajan Commission recommendations in toto.

On terrorist activities he said the government was fully prepared to curb all terrorist activities in the state.

He also felicitated 40 eminent personalities of Udipi district for their contribution to the state.
