The ashes of late Bhartiya Janata Party leader Pramod Mahajan would be immersed in holy rivers across the country, including Ganga, Brahmaputra and Godavari.
The ashes of Mahajan, who was cremated on Thursday, were collected from the Shivaji Park cremation ground on Friday morning among others by son Rahul, brother-in-law Gopinath Munde, BJP national secretary Vijay Goel and state party leaders.
An urn containing the ashes has been kept at the state party headquarters at Nariman Point in Mumbai to enable party activists and workers to pay their respects, Goel told PTI over phone from Mumbai.
He said some ashes would be immersed at Banganga near Malabar Hill in Mumbai later on Friday, while another urn would be brought to Delhi soon.
Mahajan's ashes would be immersed at holy places, including the Ganges at Hardwar, Varanasi and Garhmukhteshwar, Brahmaputra in Assam and Godavari in Nashik, he said.
The BJP leader succumbed to injuries on Wednesday evening, 12 days after his younger brother Pravin pumped three bullets into him at his Mumbai residence.
