Anti-Bush protests: UP govt orders probe

Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday ordered a high-level inquiry into the violence during protests against United States President George W Bush's visit, in which four persons were killed and 12 others injured.

The high-level inquiry committee, comprising Agriculture Production Commissioner Navin Chandra Bajpai and Director General of PAC Bua Singh, will look into theĀ reasons behind the flare-upĀ and laxity, if any, in dealing with the situation and submit their report in two days time, Principal Secretary Home Alok Sinha told reporters in Lucknow.

Four persons were killed and dozens injured as anti-Bush protests turned communal and arson and violence rocked several areas of the state capital on Friday after which police opened fire.

Trouble erupted in the old city soon after Friday prayers as processionists went around trying to force shops shut in Aminabad and Kaiserbagh police station areas.
