The Supreme Court was Friday informed that Delhi and Uttar Pradesh governments have seriously taken the issue of telephone tapping involving Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh and the matter was discussed at the highest level for resolving the controversy relating to investigation of the case.
"We are hopeful of resolving the issue," senior advocate Soli J Sorabjee appearing for Uttar Pradesh government told a Bench comprising Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal, Justice C K Thakker and Justice R V Raveendran. Additional Solicitor General Gopal Subramanian said Lt Governor of Delhi B L Joshi has spoken to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav after the apex Court directed the government of both states to discuss the issue at the highest level.

"Some conversation has taken place," the ASG said. Following which, the bench posted the matter for further hearing in the first week of April. During last hearing, the court had directed them to desist from using the phone tapping incident for political mileage. The court was hearing a petition filed by Uttar Pradesh government seeking an independent probe into the incident.
Both, the Delhi and Uttar Pradesh governments have registered separate cases on the issue. While the Delhi Police has filed a chargesheet against four persons in the case, the UP police was yet to complete the probe. The UP police had alleged that the Delhi government was not cooperating with it into the investigation of the case.
