Terror should be fought: Bush

Terrorism -- as much as the complexities of the India-US nuclear deal -- dominated Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's encounter with President George W Bush on Monday morning.

Bush conveyed a strong condemnation of the terrorist acts in Jammu and Kashmir and Mumbai to Dr Singh, expressing complete solidarity with India in dealing with terrorists.

"Terror should be fought wherever it occurs," the American President said.

Though the G8 nations had planned to highlight the dangers of terrorism in its position paper in the run-up to the summit, a mention of India was not part of the draft.

The horrific events of July 11 changed all that. The US was among one of the first to agree that the G8 nations would issue a strong statement on terrorism in India.
