Four domestic tourists were killed and 10 others were injured in a power hand grenade explosion at Dalgate in uptown Srinagar on Tuesday afternoon.

A senior police officer told rediff.com that a mini-bus carrying tourists from Kolkata was attacked by militants, killing three tourists on the spot, while one succumbed to injuries later in the hospital.

"The powerful hand grenade exploded inside the bus, killing three tourists on the spot while 10 others were wounded," the officer said.

All the injured persons were taken to SMHS hospital, where one more seriously injured person succumbed to his injuries. Among the dead are three females and one male.

Attending doctors described the condition three of the injured tourists as critical.

The explosion rocked the otherwise busy Dalgate area, which was instantaneously closed as security forces surrounded it and mounted searches to locate those responsible for the explosion.

It may be recalled that two buses carrying tourists from Kolkata were attacked at the same spot, which is known as the hub of tourist activity, on May 31. One tourist was killed and 18 others were wounded in two explosions.
