Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has said that the two assassination attempts in 2004 had not deterred him from living his normal life, and he continues to move around freely, enjoying coffee and dinner in hotels and attending marriages just like before.
He, however, said that he was concerned about the safety of his family members and the security personnel who guard him round the corner.
"I haven't restrained my daily working, as I move around to attend marriages and parties. I frequently go to hotels for coffee and dinner. But there is a matter of concern for my family and for people deployed for my security. They have a hectic job protecting me. I think I am a lucky man," the Daily Times quoted Musharraf as saying in a one-to-one interview with GEO TV.
He said he was not scared at all, as had served in commando operations and fought wars. "I have lived with danger and I have faced danger in my life," Musharraf said.
He said that currently there was "turmoil nationally and internationally", and the situation required him to remain in uniform to maintain unity of command within the three major institutions of Pakistan -- politics, bureaucracy and military.
"Nobody excepted me to bring about unity in the functioning of these three organisations," Musharraf said, adding, "I could do that job more effectively in my uniform and that is why I kept it."
