Meerut police has sent a search party to Gulavati in Bullandshahar in Uttar Pradesh to fish out the body of Miss Kavita Rani who has been allegedly murdered by Ravinder Pradhan and his associate who wanted to get rid of her for her blackmailing tactics.

"We are trying to find the body at the instance of Ravinder Pradhan, the prime accused in this case. Pradhan has already confessed to murdering Kavita. We are carrying out the water draining exercise so that we can locate her body. We are 80 km from Meerut at Sonatha River," Ajay Kumar, Inspector, who is investigating the case, told rediff.com.

On Monday Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate had remanded Ravinder Pradhan to two days of police remand on the basis of his confessions.

But the investigations took a new turn when Asfa, another gram pradhan, claimed that he had seen Kavita alive a day after she was allegedly murdered by Ravinder and his co-conspirators.

Satish Malik, brother of Kavita, had registered a missing complaint on December 22 with the Civil Lines police station and had accused Ravinder Pradhan and several others for abducting her. Kavita used to live in room no 10 of Vijay Nagar Mahila Chhattravas before she was abducted. She was a lecturer in Chaudhary Charan Singh University.

Senior officers of Meerut police namely Inspector General of Police Jagmohan Yadav and Senior Superintendent of Police Navnit Sikera are tight lipped and refused to speak to the visual and print media through out the day." I would speak only after the body is found," Sikera told newsmen.
