The season of Ganesh

August 22, 2006
In just five more days Ganesh Puja will begin on August 27.

Mumbai, the city that celebrates this festival with a special dhoom-dham (pomp), started gearing up for Ganesh Chaturthi months ago.

And from early this week the season's largest Ganpatis have been moving majestically down the streets as they are transported from the workshops, where they were created, to the pandals where they will be worshipped right till early September.

A peek at some of 2006's most impressive Ganeshs:

He is 25 feet tall and is bound in a procession for Girgaum, south Mumbai. He is the Chandanwadi-Chira Bazaar Ganpati.
