Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pramod Mahajan continued to remain on ventilatory support and dialysis on Wednesday but doctors said the dosage of medicines being administered to him to maintain his blood pressure had been gradually reduced, giving a 'positive indication.'
"Mahajan is tolerating the reduction in medication for maintaining blood pressure," Anupam Verma, director (administration), Hinduja hospital, told reporters in the health bulletin at 7:30 pm.
Asked if this was a positive development, Verma said, "It is a positive indication." However, he maintained that Mahajan's condition was 'critical but stable.'
Mahajan, who was shot and critically wounded by his younger brother Pravin on Saturday morning, continued on ventilatory support to maintain his lung functioning while doctors are maintaining the Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy as his kidney's functioning is still poor.
Amid rumours pertaining to Mahajan's health, hospital authorities clarified that change in health condition, if any, will be conveyed to the media directly. "If there is any significant change or development to be communicated to media, the hospital authorities will do it directly," Verma said.
On the investigation front, police, questioning Pravin Mahajan, who was arrested on the charge of attempt to murder, claimed Pravin had made up mind to kill Pramod Mahajan if things were not sorted out between the two brothers. Investigators told PTI that he had accepted that the idea to kill Pramod Mahajan was in his mind the moment he left home at Thane. But he first intended to have a frank talk with the BJP leader to sort out issues, they said.
The Mumbai police is likely to propose to Maharashtra government to refer the case pertaining to murderous assault Pramod Mahajan, to a Fast Track Court for an expeditious trial, sources said.
"The case was important due to involvement of a VIP in it and therefore it was fit to be referred to a Fast Track Court," a senior police official told PTI.
Meanwhile, BJP president Rajnath Singh visited the Hinduja hospital on Wednesday to inquire about his senior colleague's health. "I am confident that Pramodji will recover as he has the blessings of the entire country," Singh told reporters emerging out of the hospital.
Shiv Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackeray, newly- formed Jan Morcha chief Raj Babbar, industrialist Ratan Tata, Maharashtra ministers Chagan Bhujbal, Vijaysinh Mohite Patil and Dr Vimal Mundada were prominent personalities who visited the Mahajan family at the hospital on Wednesday.
