Senior security officials from Pakistan and India were meeting Thursday at a border post to review progress on reopening a second railroad link between the two countries and discuss border violations and fighting drug trafficking, an official said.
The meeting was taking place in Khokhrapar, a Pakistani border town, across Rajasthan, said Col Javed Akhtar, a spokesman for the Sindh Rangers border security force.
India and Pakistan have agreed to resume the rail link between Khokhrapar and Munabao, in Rajasthan, as part of an ongoing thaw in relations and are repairing and rebuilding portions of the track. Officials have said the train service is likely to restart by the 2005 end.
"Restoration work on the track is going on and the two sides will review it in the meeting," Akhtar said.
Akhtar said the Pakistan Singh Rangers and Border Security Force officials will also discuss the issues of illegal crossings and drug traficking along their border.
The train service between Khokhrapar and Munabao was snapped following the 1965 war between Pakistan and India.
