Adieu to Lord Ganesha

Amidst the singing of religious hymns and aarti's and in the loud noise of dhol and taashe(drums) the Ganapati idols were given a ceremonial farewell.

Every year, the first ones to be immersed are idols from the Central Mumbai areas of Lalbaug, Parel and Prabhadevi.

As the sun sets, the chaupati's(beaches of Mumbai) look like a sea of humanity amidst the chants of pudchya varshi lavkar(please come early next year) returns home.

Seen in the picture is the Nare Park idol from central Mumbai's Lalbaug.
